Summary
The author of this slim little volume came to Meeteetse with his family in December 1941 from Worland. His first trip to the mountain was the next June when he hired on with George Mckenzie taking his sheep to the permit around Cottonwood Peak. He was fourteen years old. That was the first of six years going to the mountain with the sheep. During the war years there was plenty of work and a large family to help support. Forest and Sam were the oldest boys so their contribution was important. For Sam it included camp tending for Jack Webster to and on the Forest Service grazing permit near Cottonwood Peak. Marriage and parenting kept him in the low country the next twenty years. In 1967, the family went back to the mountain, The manuscript for this book was set down by 1988. Editing began in 2005 done by his grandson Austin Saylor and Austin's wife Liz. His daughter, Marsha Bishop, published it in 2010. Unfortunately, Sam did not live to see the finished book. We truly hope he approves. -inserted letter.
