Summary
Portrays the history of the native Americans from prehistoric time to the present. Include illustrations of materials created by Indians which thus give an insight into their culture, pictures revealing the Indians' perceptions of themselves and of their way of life, prints of paintings done by Charles Bird King, George Catlin and Karl Bodmer, and others. Also contains print of a poster advertising opening land opportunities in Indian territory, pictures from the movies "The Vanishing American" (1925) and "Little Big Man" (1971). A Navaho rug and turquoise necklace are shown as examples of 20th century Indian art. A picture of the takeover at the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 1972 indicates the efforts of Indians to make their grievances known.
