Summary
Justice Blume's correspondence (1898-1965) deals with family life, personal finances, individual court cases, and state and national legal, political and social issues. Correspondents include family members, lawyers, and state and national political leaders. The collection also includes legal records (1901-1960), and various manuscripts, publications, and speeches (1911-1938). Blume reflected on many political issues of the day. His notes and notebooks provide insight into his legal and intellectual interests. In particular, he studied, lectured and wrote on various aspects of the Roman legal system.

Biographical or Historical Data
Justice Blume was born 9 January 1875 in Hanover, Germany and immigrated to Iowa. He graduated from Audubon, Iowa High School in 1894 and the University of Iowa in 1898 with a degree of Bachelor of Philosophy. After receiving legal training under Theodore Myers, he passed the Iowa State Bar in 1899 and was later county and prosecuting attorney for Audobon County. Blume moved to Sheridan, Wyoming in 1905 where he practiced law for many years. He was elected to the state house of representatives in 1906, and ran unsuccessfully for congress on the Progressive Party ticket in 1914. He was appointed to the Wyoming State Supreme Court in April 1921 and served until his retirement in 1963.
